SATURDAY - Eric and Emily's Wedding Reception

The Wedding Reception at L'EGLISE

Immediately after the Marriage Ceremony, we drove over to L'EGLISE for the Wedding Reception. L'EGLISE was practically in Abbeville or Erath. What shocked Marc and me was how much the area had developed since we were kids. Verot School Road used to be all farm properties with a few old beat up wooden houses back in the mid to late 1970s. Now the road is covered with subdivisions and brick houses, with very few plots of farm land left. And the subdivisions extended almost all of the way to L'EGLISE.

L'EGLISE was a little compact sized but large enough for our group. The food was delicious. The food highlights for me were the Crawfish Étouffée (no surprise there!) and the Boudoin Balls and the Groom's Cake: REESE'S Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. Of course me being me, I had never heard of a Groom's Cake before. Sadly, I forget what the Wedding Cake was.

The music and dancing commenced shortly after the food was served. Curiously, the newlyweds and the Maids of Honor and Groomsmen danced 2 or 3 songs choreographed; I never saw that before! I am guessing that is another new trend in Weddings. The Bride and her Father danced together to the song ROCKING ROBIN; I think it was the Michael Jackson version.

I got a chance to visit with John Dempsey and catch up a little on his brother and sisters. I also got to visit briefly with cousin Susie and her husband Phil and Uncle Jimmy, Uncle Tom, Aunt Lou, and cousin Claire and Cathy. Phil and I both devoured the Crawfish Étouffée. I was not aware that he was from Wyoming; you learn something new all of the time.

I tried several times to call Sister Jeanette to see about visiting with her, but she did not answer her phone and did not seem to have an answering machine. So we did not see her this trip. I did find an article about her on the InterNet, so I know that she is alive and doing well. Ah well, c'est la vie!

Visiting after the Wedding Reception at Eric and Lynne's house

After the Wedding Reception wound down, Marc and I stopped by our hotel room to change clothes and then drove over to Eric and Lynne's house to visit some more. Joining us were: Felix, Julie, Paul and Rochelle and Miles and Rhiana, John Dempsey, later Susie and Phil, along with Marc and me. Rusty had to bring Eric his wallet and other documents so the newlyweds could enjoy their honeymoon, so sadly he did not make it.

We had more time to catch up with John Dempsey. John Dempsey is moving to a new Parish: Powahatun(?), which is even more nowhere than Woodworth. This conversation segued into Police Speed Traps in Woodworth, Washington, and Henderson where the police are handing out very expensive speeding tickets. I think that the Woodworth Police hand out the most expensive speeding tickets in the country. We segued into John Dempsey's adventure taking Marc to a music concert back in 1978 or 1979. Marc then followed up with my New Year's Eve performance at the UPPERLINE restaurant, where I regaled the patrons with my truncated version of AMAZING GRACE, to Steve's eternal embarrassment. And I could have walked out of the restaurant on my own...

Eric and Paul got to talking about fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and all of the yummy fish that they caught: redfish, grouper, tuna (yellow fin, black fin, and speckled trout). Paul talked about how a shark ate Miles' only catch in the Gulf; sharks are bad.

After a few more hours of visiting, Marc and I felt exhausted. So we said our goodbyes and drove back to our hotel. And such was our adventure attending Eric and Emily's Wedding and Reception!
