SUMMITING MOUNT HUMPHREYS

Our 1st Attempt - June 2008

Marc and I 1st attempted to summit Mount Humphreys way back in June 2008. At that time, we were not quite in tip top shape for such a hike. We ended up stopping at the Saddle Point with just over a mile left to hike at 12,000+ feet altitude. As you can see from the photo above, the peak still had a fair amount of snow even though we were in June. We did not get another chance to come back and summit that Summer. So we vowed to take another shot at it the next year...

Our 2nd Attempt - May 2014

The next year turned into 6 years later. We had a mild winter in Sedona for 2014. However, strangely enough, Mount Humphreys was packed with ice and snow. We once again got up to the Saddle Point to discover that the temperature was bitterly cold, even for me. In fact, I underdressed for the occasion and forgot my gloves. I lost feeling in my hands for about 5 minutes, which convinced me to wimp out and summit Mount Humphreys another day. So we again vowed to return and summit Mount Humphreys when the weather was warmer...

Our 3rd Attempt - September 2014

We finally returned in September, a mere 3 months later. The weather was perfect, rather warm for this time of year. We summited in 3 hours, which I felt was pretty good. On the way down our legs sure felt sore though... Yep, the 3rd time is the charm! Now, we just need to hike something really challenging! :-) A project for next year...
