MONDAY - Visiting with Honore and Marie

Monday morning Marc and I drove out to Opelousas to visit Honore and Marie. Felix and Gai and Aunt Lou met us at our hotel and then lead us to the truck stop where we waited briefly for Honore to show us the way to their camp.

Surprisingly, Honore and Marie's camp was only 5 minutes further along from the truck stop. Even more surprising their camp turned out to be a mobile home with a boat in the carport; I was expecting more rustic accommodations. And best of all, the mobile home had air conditioning. Heck, I could live there! Their camp fronted on the lake, with a beautiful view of the lake. I noticed how lush and green everything looked; quite a contrast with the "high desert" of Arizona where Marc and I live.

Honore and Marie were really happy to see us. They talked quite a bit and still recalled their visit to Sedona with Delaina and Chais. Marie talked proudly about her grandbaby. Honore brought some grilled seafood po-boys filled with yummy shrimp and crawfish and tasso among other things for lunch that were fantastic. I may have to see if the restaurant can ship to Arizona! And the bread pudding for dessert was also incredible. Yeah, I miss Louisiana cooking!

While Aunt Lou, Gais, and Marie talked, Honore, Felix, Marc, and I discussed Louisiana politics. Will our former colorful governor Edwin Edwards run for office again? If so, will he run for governor or senator? Eddie's ex-wife Candy's reality TV show (I never knew she had 1). Former legislator Ron Gomez's opinions on Eddie. And the usual colorful cast of characters in Louisiana politics.

Honore had to get back to work, and Marie needed a little rest, so we said our goodbyes after lunch. Then Marc and I drove back to Lafayette (now that we knew th way back) and ran some errands. After that we took it easy and relaxed back at the hotel, resting after our busy weekend and preparing for more visits in the next couple of days. And usch was our visit with Honore and Marie this year.
