WEDNESDAY

Visiting with Uncle Jimmy

We got up and drove up to Willis to visit Uncle Jimmy. Uncle Jimmy was looking really good, just like last year. Lots of energy and up for talking and visiting. Uncle Jimmy bought a new BUICK to impress an 81 year old lady in his neighborhood. She ended up getting her own new car, so that plan failed. The car roof is too low, and Uncle Jimmy keeps banging his head on the car roof. So now he wants to trade it in for another car.

Uncle Jimmy talked about the 1950s and 1960s with us. He told us about taking Aunt Bert to Paris 1 time (the 1950s I think). She loved it; she was able to speak French with the Parisians beautifully. Uncle Jimmy also said that Mom and Dad had dinner with Aunt Bert and him before they got married, and they were crazy about each other.

Uncle Jimmy flew for SUPERIOR OIL for 25 years before retiring. Before SUPERIOR OIL, he flew:

So Uncle Jimmy had a colorful job history :-)

Uncle Jimmy belongs to a group of retired pilots called the SILENT BIRDS or something like that. He meets with a buddy from around Texarkana every month or so when his friend comes down to visit.

After visiting for 2 hours or so, we said our goodbyes and hit the road for Lafayette. The traffic was not too bad, so we made good time.

Dinner with the Pitre Clan at DON'S Seafood Hut.

We checked into our hotel and then drove over to DON'S Seafood Hut to have dinner with Felix and Gais, Eric and Lynne, Robbin and Joshua. I was able to get my alligator tails blackened again, so I felt very happy :-) Eric told us that Paul quit his job about 2 months ago and is now working as a consultant (that was news to me!). After a fantastic dinner, we returned to Felix and Gai's house to visit some more.

Marc and Eric had a long discussion about cars and 3 wheel motorcycles. Then Gai and Felix discussed disastrous camping trips with Eric and Louis to New Mexico and Grand Isle. New Mexico in particular was bitterly cold, and poor Eric and Louis had to wear every piece of clothing that they owned to stay warm. They also talked about how the hot water tank above the master bedroom broke and the trials and tribulations of getting that fixed. We even got to see Anissa, who came out and said hello and briefly visited with us. An Anissa sighting: stop the presses :-)

Shawn is now working at DON'S Seafood Hut on the 1st shift. DON'S Seafood Hut hired him away from RANDOL'S Cajun Restaurant, so it sounds like Shawn may have found his calling in life (being a chef).

Richard missed his connecting flight from Atlanta to Lafayette and spent the night in Atlanta. So we did not get to see him until the next afternoon.

Louis is stable at the moment: he has good days and bad days.

Marc and I visited with everybody until around 11:15PM, then said our goodbyes and went back to our hotel and slept. And such was our 1st night back in Lafayette for 2015.
