We got up the next morning after sleeping a little later than usual and drove over to Uncle Tom and Ellen's house to visit. Claire arrived before us, and she was having a really good day: coherent and fun and happy. We noticed mail scattered everywhere in the house, even on the sofa. Ellen had to move some of the mail for me to sit down on the sofa.
I felt surprised at Uncle Tom's condition. He looked and sounded weak. His memory was still good for old things, and he recalled us. His attitude was still good, which is a blessing. He shook a lot and needed a cane and help to walk. He really needed help getting out of his chair, but he refused the help. Uncle Tom had a nurse to help him bathe as well as a nurse/helper for both him and Ellen.
Ellen seemed a little better, but she also has a similar diagnosis.
After Uncle Tom had his bath, we said goodbye and left. I still felt surprised at his condition. We returned to our hotel before leaving for Eric and Lynne's new house.
We picked up Aunt Lou and drove to Eric and Lynne' house to celebrate her Birthday. She brought her world famous Red Velvet Cake with her, so I was really happy :-) She is getting a little shaky on her feet and really needs a cane to walk. We arrived at Eric and Lynn'e new house outside of Lafayette to find them, along with:
Richard had finally arrived in Lafayette around the time that we were visiting Uncle Tom. He was in high spirits and looked good and was shaving his head. Richard and I talked for about an hour. He is still really excited about space colonization, especially Mars. He talked a lot about Elon Musk and SPACE X. We then talked about experiments in government and human nature (Richard feels that we are natural born killers). He also talked about his jury experience. Richard hung the jury, starting with a young Mexican|Hispanic guy. Apparently the arresting officer was mistaken and then physically abusive to the defendant.
Louis and Monica's son Kevin and his girlfriend Jody just eloped in Yosemite National Park. Jody's sister had a big Wedding Ceremony about a month ago, so her parents encouraged them to elope to save money. Kevin and Jody would still like a religious ceremony, so John Dempsey may get to conduct a Wedding soon…
John Dempsey arrived a little later, like 2-3 hours after us, so probably around 05:00PM. He is still looking and sounding great :-) He filled us in on other Pardue Family news:
I later moved around and talked with Eric and Lynne. They love CARNIVAL Cruises and told us about cruising the Caribbean and doing a zip one in Jamaica. Eric helps a fellow military veteran in Saint Francisville organize events to help fellow veterans. However, the Saint Francisville city council has blocked any further events due to issues over the city park, so they may be moving the event to Lafayette.
Eric and Lynne cooked up some yummy turkey sausage and red beans and rice with Andouille Sausage, which I loved :-) Also, various other guests brought some great veggies and salad. Then we finished with Aunt Lou's world famous fantastical Red Velvet Cake. Felix cheated by eating the 1st piece.
Rusty is doing great and got a good job working for FRANK'S DRILLING TOOLS. He arrived a little while after John Dempsey. He later showed us his awesome Dodge CHARGER (I think Rusty's car is a 2 door), because a man has to live :-)
After several hours of visiting, Marc and I finally said our goodbyes and left for our hotel and much needed sleep. And such was our celebration of Aunt Lou's Birthday for 2015.
