SUNDAY - The 2nd

Sunday we ate lunch at RUGGLES® in the Montrose section of town. Mom, Jackie and Steve picked me up. We reserved a table for 8, which got us seated at a spacious table upstairs in a room all to ourselves. Steve, Jackie, Mom, and me were impatiently waiting for our drinks and biscuits with RUGGLES®' world famous, absolutely yummalicious strawberry butter. Virginia and Ed arrived just after we did. During lunch the shocking truth came out: Jackie was born in West Virginia. Yep, she's one of those: a Yankee. However, Jackie did not shoot J.R. After recovering from the shock, we managed to eat most of our food (I definitely ate all of my food). Some people ordered more food than they could eat and got doggie bags for their extra food. Here are the guilty parties, Mom, Jackie, and Virginia while we wait for the valet to bring our cars.

After lunch Mom, Jackie, and Virginia went shopping at the Galleria (an awesome shopping mall located on Westheimer Street just outside the west side of the 610 loop, for people familiar with Houston), while Ed bailed out on us. Steve and I dutifully checked out the DVD shop in the Galleria. We had to make sure they offered a decent selection of DVDs. I can safely report that they did. Steve got THE THIRD MAN®, a late 1940s Orson Welles movie which critics consider a classic. They also had a music section, including a surprisingly thorough Jazz section. Steve got a few Jazz CDs as well. That pretty much concluded our shopping for the day. We waited for Mom, Virginia, and Jackie to tire of their aerobic shopping exercise. Then I bailed out while they drove Virginia home. And that was our lazy Sunday afternoon.

MONDAY - The 3rd

Monday we ate lunch at SCOTT CHEN'S®, a nice restaurant kind of like P.F. CHANG'S®. The food was nice, the desserts were average. After enjoying lunch, Mom and Jackie then went shopping for carpets while Steve and I located the FERRARI® dealership, which is located on the Highway 59 feeder road between Fountainview and Westpark streets. Tragically, they did not have any Modenas (some fancy motorcycle that Steve loved) in stock or on display. Mom and Jackie eventually called us over to suffer through their carpet shopping ordeal. They asked for our opinion on various carpets, then ignored our opinions. (Kind of makes me wonder why we had to be present.) After suffering through this experience, we subsequently made our way over to THE EMPIRE CAFE®, a great coffee shop located on Westheimer a few blocks east of Sheperd street. Virginia joined us, and we sat and talked a while. Then we said our goodbyes and all went our separate ways. And that was our Monday.

TUESDAY - The 4th

After suffering through 2 days of Mom and Jackie shopping, I felt like I deserved a vacation. So, I did absolutely nothing on the 4th. It was great; I loved it. And that was my July 4th weekend!
