A Cajun Christmas - 2001

TUESDAY - Christmas Day

Christmas morning we all arose around 9:30AM or thereabouts to open our gifts. Jackie did some last-minute chores as we waited to open our gifts. We all took turns handing out gifts for each other to open . Jackie and Steve gave Mom some hats, which Jackie and Mom modelled. Note that one of the hats looks like the hat the Queen of England wears. Mom is just so stylish :-) Seeing as discretion is the better part of valor, I did not take pictures of some of the other gifts. For example, Jackie and Steve gave Marc a JAR-JAR BINKS® puzzle. Marc gave Jackie and Steve a book on babies (they currently have no children). Jackie and Steve gave Mom a book on French for Beginners (Mom speaks fluent Cajun French). On to more appropriate gifts. Joan gave us (the family) a really nice bottle of red wine called JARVIS®, which we drank with Christmas lunch. Marc gave Mom an electric feet warmer/feet mittens to keep her feet warm. Jackie and Steve gave Mom her hats, as mentioned above. I gave Mom some cashmere socks. Mom also gave Jackie some cashmere socks, because Jackie does not like the cold either.

After opening our gifts, we ate lunch. For red wine, we had Joan's JARVIS® and Steve's QUINTESSA®. Once again (the first time was Thanksgiving), we had the Corn and Crab Bisque and the Crawfish Pies from A LA CARTE®. We also had roast beef with rice and gravy, duck, salad, green beans, macque choux, and buttered rolls. For dessert, Marc brought some home cooked goodies from Dara and her sister, which were excellent :-) We also had cheesecake and pecan pie from JIM'S COUNTRY PIES®, not to mention a few remaining rum balls from 3 BROTHERS BAKERY®, cookies that Jackie baked, and various other chocolate candies. So we pigged out (no pictures because I know Wendy does not want to see this stuff :-) After lunch we all just sort of let our food digest. Steve loaded a BLACK ADDER® DVD and we watched 3 or 4 episodes of BLACK ADDER® during the time of William Pitt (around the late 18th Century). Very funny; lots of "cunning plans" that come to naught.

That evening Marc, Jackie, Joan, and I went to see THE LORD OF THE RINGS®. Steve had to work! Mom was too tired to bother with movies. THE LORD OF THE RINGS® was great; I recommend it to all Tolkien fans. The movie also had enough action to satisfy serious action movie lovers. Be sure to see this movie at a theater with stadium seating and sense-surround sound; otherwise, you lose some of the impact. Note that this movie is 3 hours long. However, the movie moves pretty fast. For the few persons who have not read Tolkien's books, do not be surprised at the ending...

After the movie we returned home. Steve was still working, just thrilled to be alive and employed :-) And such was our Christmas for 2001.
