New Year in New Orleans

NOTE: I put the wrong memory card in my digital camera (8 MB instead of 32 MB). Consequently, I was not able to take many pictures. I did not think this would matter, since I did not expect much to happen. As you will read below, plenty happened. Worse, I took too many pictures at Odette's wedding and reception, leaving very little room for other pictures. So, you will have a lot to read and not much to look at this time. Next year, I will use the correct memory card.

FRIDAY - Arriving In Lafayette

Friday afternoon I drove home. Jackie and Steve were still visiting Mom. We had a low-key evening, in which I indulged my addiction to MAH-JONGG on Mom's computer. The music with this MAH-JONGG game is really intoxicating; it makes you want to play the game all day long. Anyhow, that was Friday.

SATURDAY - Arriving In New Orleans

Saturday morning we drove into New Orleans. Mom and Jackie commented at length on the car's seat-warmers. Kind of makes you wonder what they did before cars had seat-warmers...

Marc and I prepared for Odette's wedding, while Mom, Jackie and Steve prepared to spend the afternoon shopping. Odette is a college friend of Marc's. After taking a couple of pictures (my back must have been hurting a lot because I am not standing even close to straight), Marc and I drove over to the church where Odette's was about to be married. Mom, Jackie and Steve hooked up with Jennifer to eat lunch and then commence to shopping (This picture is from August).

Odette and Adam (her fiancee) had a nice quiet wedding , maybe 100 people. The wedding lasted about an hour. Odette looked really nice, as did everyone else. After the wedding, Odette and Adam had their wedding reception at 1 River Place. The food was great. The view from the room where the reception was held was also very nice. Marc and I stayand I stayed about an hour, talking and mingling. Tragically, Odette and Adam had the misfortune of getting married on the day the Saints were playing their 1st round playoff game against the Saint Louis Rams. So Marc and I bailed out for the game. The next 3 hours were really intense, as the Saints surged ahead 31-7. Then in the 4th quarter the Saints started snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, as the Rams scored 3 touchdowns to narrow the Saints' lead to 31-28. In the last few seconds of play, the Saints punted, and the Rams fumbled the reception. The Saints recovered and ran down the clock for their 1st-ever playoff victory. WOW! Throw me something Mister! People in New Orleans went crazy. Cats were sleeping with dogs. The local news stations spent almost the whole time talking about the Saints victory. Well this playoff game was a night to remember. Hopefully Odette and Adam will get married every playoff season :-)
