My Photography Sunrises around Sedona

SUNRISE ON CATHEDRAL ROCK

From Red Rock Loop Road

I photographed this scene early on a cold still morning in late January 2011. Red Rock Loop Road has several places to park alongside the road for photographing east and south Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek, along with all of the beautiful mountains and buttes and the Mogollon Rim. I photographed this scene several times with my medium format camera, my large format 4x5 camera, and my large format 8x10 camera. The medium format and 4x5 photos looked OK but not great. The 8x10 photos turned out spectacular, as you can see. The morning sun and clouds produced an incredible tapestry of colors in the sky. Cathedral Rock and the other buttes appear as silhouettes. Cathedral Rock in in the center, with Courthouse Butte, just to the left of center. I photographed this scene with color slide (Fuji PROVIA 100F and VELVIA 100) and black and white (Ilford FP4+) film. I like the Fuji VELVIA 100 photograph best.

I took this photo with my Ebony SV810 camera and Fuji FUJINON-C 600mm f11.5 lens with an aperture of f32 and a shutter speed of 1/2 second.
