Visiting with my old buddy Mark Fitzpatrick

Marc and Jackie and I had to meet in Louisiana to settle some matters with Mom's estate in January. So I brought Adele along to see New Orleans. We met with our family attorney and resolved the legal matters. Then Adele and I visited with my old buddy Mark Fitzpatrick. I had not seen Mark since Christmas 2001, so I was very happy to see him again. We spent the afternoon and evening visiting at T'FRERE'S® and later over dinner at RUTH'S CHRIS STEAK HOUSE®.

Adele and my visit to New Orleans

Adele and I had breakfast at T'FRERE'S® and then drove down to New Orleans to visit for the day. Along the way we saw the Atchafalaya Swamp. We finally got to the French Quarter in New Orleans around 2 in the afteroon. At that time the good restaurants were all closed. So we walked around seeing the sights and people. We even went into a voodoo shop. Finally around 4 we were both starving and asked about restaurants that open at 5. A store clerk told us that GALATOIRE'S® restaurant opened at 5. So we headed off for GALATOIRE'S®. ( At this point I need to offer some background info; GALATOIRE'S® is a stuffy blue-blood restaurant that some of my relatives happen to love and rave about. Well it turned out that GALATOIRE'S® was located on Bourbon Street among a series of strip joints. Not the location that I would expect for a fancy restaurant. ) So Adele and I go to the hostess and ask for a table. She informed us that I needed a collared shirt to be admitted. As you can see from the picture above, I was wearing a nice shirt, although not collared. Hungry and desperate, we walked next door to a novelty shop. The shop just happened to have 1 really dirty old collared shirt. So I bought it. Adele was feeling irritated at this point and wanted to buy a penis necklace to test the restaurant. However, cooler heads prevailed, and we went back to GALATOIRE'S®, who finally admitted us. So we sat down and ordered and ate a decent meal. Not as good as COPELAND'S® in its heyday, but adequate. I personally could not see what the fuss was all about for this restaurant. But hey, that's just me. As we were leaving a homeless man walked in with a collared shirt and asked for a table. Collared shirt karma I say! At that point it was late, so we drove back to Lafayette. And that was Adele's introduction to New Orleans.

Seeing our Old Family Homes

The next day I saw Adele off at the airport. I stayed to take care of some remaining estate matters. Later in the day I drove by one of our old homes that we lived in during the 1970s-1980s. The 70s house has changed a lot since we lived in it. The next day I drove by the house that we lived in during the 1990s. The 90s home has not changed much. Seeing these homes brought back memories, both happy and sad. I cannot recall what I did later on either of those days.

The next morning I took care of the remaining estate matter. I flew home, and that was my January visit to Louisiana.
