These Sycamores are against the hill facing west and Highway 89A and Midgely Bridge. The trees and bushes and rocks form an analogous color scheme of orange-yellow-green. The pale blue sky forms a complementary contrast with the trees and rocks and helps intensify their colors. Finally, the sky forms a simple negative shape to contrast the trees and bush and rocks. The light is very bright, around 03:00PM in the afternoon. I took the above photo with my PhaseOne 645AF Medium Format camera and digital back, PhaseOne 45mm f2.8 Sekor-D AF lens.

I took the photo below about an hour later. Different lighting (not as bright) and slightly more wide angle. The shadows are much darker and less colorful, the sky is much more intense blue, the Sycamores are not as brightly lit and tend to blend into the red rocks. The composition is more balanced between light and dark, and the colors look more "natural" than the above photo. I took the photo below with my EBONY SV810 camera, Schneider SUPER-SYMMAR XL 150mm f5.6 lens, and Fuji VELVIA 50 color slide film.

Both photos feel like near misses to me. I like the positive and negative shapes and the colors of the composition. However, the photos do not really communicate my feelings about the Sycamores; they come across as more of a generic landscape photo. Not bad, just not what I intended with these photos.
