I took these 2 photographs within the "Faerie Ring". I like how the dead tree trunk in the 1st photo directs your eyes from right to left and into the scene. Also, how it sets the 3 larger Redwood tree trunks in the mid-ground into space, creating a foreground, a mid-ground, and a background. I feel that these 4 tree trunks create bold simple shapes that move your eyes around the scene. I also like how the colors came out really rich and saturated; the Redwood tree trunks actually look reddish-brown like in real life. I definitely prefer this shot to the 2nd shot.
The 2nd photo shows a cubby hole in the tree trunk large enough for me to comfortably fit inside. I like how the tree trunks all create an upward movement through the scene so that your eyes do not stay on the dark cubby hole. I feel that the colors in this photo were too washed out and a little disappointing. However, the shapes are interesting; maybe I just need to photograph this scene during midday when the sunlight highlights these tree trunks.
I took these photographs with my Fuji GSW690III MF Rangefinder camera and Fuji VELVIA 100 film.
