Fall leaves on the Maples near Cave Springs in Oak Creek Canyon.


This trip was my last time photographing the Maples for 2009. I like this composition because it "fades out" as you go into it. The fog in the distance creates a soft ethereal effect, which I really like. The rocks in the foreground seem to reflect the gray of the sky. The sky also creates an interesting negative space, shaping the trees. The dark tree trunks on the left create a rhythm, leading your eye into the image. The predominantly red leaves on the left contrast with the predominantly green leaves on the right, creating a balance of sorts. A soft quiet image.

I used my Ebony SV57 camera, Nikon NIKKOR-SW 120mm f8 lens, and Fuji VELVIA 100 color transparency film for this image.
