I took these photos near the end of the wash. I liked the simple complementary contrast of the orange Maple leaves and the blue rocks in these photos. The yellow-green leaves in the left foreground helped put the Maple tree in space. I feel that the above photo is more traditional and representational; it looks like a tree, not an abstract design. Also, the sunlight shows more clearly in this photo than in the photo below. I used my Ebony RW45 4x5 camera and Fuji VELVIA 100 color slide film on both photos. I used a Rodenstock SIRONAR-S 135mm f5.6 lens for the above photo.
I took the photo below a few minutes later. I used a Rodenstock SIRONAR-S 240mm f5.6 lens, which gave a more cropped and immediate feel to the Maple tree. Also, the tree trunks create a bolder, more abstract composition and a rhythm to the image that I really like. The positive and negative shapes feel stronger than in the above photo.
I like both photos; they are slightly different and each have their strong points.
