I hiked Kachina trail on Mount Humphreys on a lazy Saturday afternoon. I took my Medium Format camera gear and just stopped and photographed whatever interested me. Towards sunset I took a few vertical photos which I really liked. The above photo has a couple of pine trees framing the Aspens and setting them in space, giving them a context. I cut off the treetops of the closest Aspens to create the feeling of being among the Aspens; to give a feeling of immediacy, not distance. I took these photos with my PhaseOne 645AF Medium Format camera, PhaseOne 45mm f2.8 SEKOR-D AF lens, and Fuji VELVIA 50 color slide film.

I took the photo below about a few minutes later. The sun was closer to the horizon, so the light was oranger. I like how the right Aspen tree trunk is in shadow, and the left Asen tree trunk is still in light, creating a contrast and balance in the image at the same time. The Aspens' yellow leaves look even more brilliant and golden in the setting sunlight. The Aspens' treetops create a nice diagonal at the top leading your eye through the image from left to right. And the pine trees are in the middle ground of the image, accentuating the Aspens instead of framing them.

I love both photos; they have that bright sunny feeling to them that I feel when I am among the Aspens.
