In November 2009, I drove around upper Red Rock Loop Road looking for a good view to photograph. The place with the best view was crowded, so I drove back towards the high school. I finally found a place to park and walked a hundred feet or so and set up my camera. I was actually looking to test my new Toyo METAL FIELD CAMERA with 5x7 back against my Ebony SV57 camera. Of course I probably would have gotten more accurate results if I had used the same lenses, but hey that's life. I used a Rodenstock SIRONAR-S 240mm f5.6 lens with my Ebony SV57 and a Fuji FUJINON-A 240mm f9 lens with the Toyo METAL FIELD CAMERA. The exposed film came out almost identical. I feel the exposures from my Ebony SV57 came out better, but it could have been the lens as well. Bottom line is, the Toyo passed the test, and I took it down to the Yucatan in December. My photos from my Yucatan trip came out great, so all's well that ends well.

This composition came out almost symmetrical, with Cathedral Rock in the center. Unfortunately, you can see some houses in the foreground, but at least they are in shadow. I may crop the sky and make the image more panoramic. I think the camera was not completely level; the horizon seems to tilt to the right. Looks neat; I like it. Another result of this test is that I am liking the 5x7 aspect ratio more and more for landscapes.

I took these photos with my Toyo METAL FIELD CAMERA with a 5x7 back, Fuji FUJINON-A 240mm f9 lens set at an aperture f22 and shutter speed of 1/4 second with Fuji VELVIA 100 film.
